BLACK MAGIC AND ITS ENSUING PROBLEMS

Assalam oalaikum,

With a history almost as old as mankind and its mention in several places in the Holy Quran, the threat of black magic continues to loom large in our lives. Overlooking this problem or feeling petrified due to it would be an insufficient way of addressing this issue. Instead, what is required is a realistic approach for handling this matter.

Unfortunately, some people tend to brush aside the black magic issue which can harm them in the long run. In light of the fact that there are several verses in the Heavenly Book of Quran which deal with this subject, rejecting the existence of black magic is tantamount to blasphemy. Overlooking the problem of black magic due to one’s ignorance or a so-called ‘scientific mindset’ will do no good. After all, pretending about a truth will not turn it into a fib. Besides this, some people simply turn a blind eye to this problem because they are amongst the few, lucky ones who have never experienced a black magic assault in their life. The proverb ‘only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches’ says it all. Unless such people become victims of black magic themselves, they will either feel that they are black magic proof or else they will consider black magic to be a cock and bull story. Learning from other people’s experience is a far better option than to go through an ordeal oneself and then grow wiser. So as I have mentioned earlier, what is required on our part is a realistic approach instead of living in a fool’s paradise.

The onslaught of western materialism and capitalism has created unfair competition and conflicts in the society which in turn give rise to negative traits such as envy, greed and animosity, instead of the Islamic virtues of brotherhood and co-operation. Coupled with this, an uncontrollable desire to manipulate a situation in a bid to make it work in one’s favor has also made the problem of black magic widespread. Etymologically speaking, Islam means ‘voluntary submission to the Will of Allah (swt). However, the ones who lack faith are simply not interested in taking things lying down. Rebellion is in-built in their nature. So, for example, if they find that somebody has surpassed their success or wealth then they have to find out a way of staying ahead- at any cost. If some people find that things are not turning out as they had wished so they have an evil desire to control the situation somehow so that they may go on an ego trip. Due to their egotistical nature they find it hard to accept things which do not suit their whims and fancies. This non-compliance on part of some people fosters problems in the society because such people have found a way out. Through black magic they try to captivate other’s mind so that they can control them.

In such a grim scenario our freewill is at risk and a wee bit of carelessness can turn us into mere puppets in the hands of our enemy. Hence, awareness about the weapon of black magic and the cunning strategies employed by its practitioners in this spiritual combat has become all the more essential. Through this blog, I shall Insha Allah unearth the different ways in which this weapon is being used to bring about harm on innocent people and what is the solution in the light of Islam.
